CHARLENE WANG 王夏琳
for Oakland City Council District 2
I'll put my experience to work for Oakland: I'm a former Biden-Harris official that launched a $4 billion infrastructure program that's already bringing jobs to Oakland. I reformed homeless response systems to house people faster, launched free universal preschool and Headstart programs, and helped redesign city governments to improve services while reducing costs.

An Affordable, Walkable City
Oakland’s housing crisis is driving homelessness, eating into renters’ paychecks, and forcing small businesses to close. To lower costs and create a more livable city, I will:
● Expand housing and commercial development across all income levels, prioritizing affordable and workforce housing through inclusionary zoning.
● Increase density near major transit hubs like BART and bus lines, including projects like senior housing at Lake Merritt BART.
● Partner with the Oakland Housing Authority to build new public housing, learning from successful models in Montgomery County, Maryland.
● Improve streets and transit by fixing potholes, repairing sidewalks, slowing down speeding with traffic calming and speed cameras, and expanding bus and bike lanes.
● Protect cyclists and pedestrians by fighting for safer infrastructure, including a protected bike lane on Lakeshore to prevent further tragedies.
